Stretch ceilings: are there alternatives?

Everyone who faces a repair, necessarily passes the stage of choosing the method of its finishing and, of course, wants to make this choice correctly. This is especially true in the old building (hruschevki, panel high-rise buildings), where there is often a need to eliminate cracks, mask offset ceiling slabs and strewing plaster.

To determine the choice of the most simple and accessible for you method of decoration, we will discuss all possible options.

Plaster ceilings

This method is considered the most simple and economical, because it can be mastered by yourself. However, if you understand - it's not entirely true. First, all the dirty work will have to be done by yourself (washing, whitewashing) and they will take a lot of time and effort. Secondly, in order to get a good result, in any case you can not do without leveling the ceiling, and this again is time, effort, costs and a dubious result, since only professionals can do this work qualitatively, the work of which must also be paid for.

Tiled ceilings

This type of finishing also refers to the "budget" and also has its own nuances:

  • the need for preliminary preparation of the ceiling surface;
  • limitation in design solutions;
  • appearance of yellowness and loss of attractive appearance after a couple of years of operation;
  • lack of protection against dust, dirt, grease, moisture and leaks.

Plasterboard ceilings

Drywall will make your ceilings smooth and even, and will not limit the choice of design. But even such ceilings have several "buts":

  • long term of installation;
  • this is a relatively expensive type of finish in comparison with other types of finishes;
  • strong wear and tear with time (appearance of yellowing, crevices on seams, impurities, need for painting);
  • they do not protect from dust, dirt, grease and moisture, and in the event of a leak, they can be completely worthless.

Stretch ceiling

In comparison with other types of finishing ceilings, stretch ceilings have many advantages:

  • no need to prepare the ceiling;
  • ideal smoothness;
  • unlimited design due to the variety of textures and colors (more than 100 shades), the possibility of creating multi-level structures and installing any lighting options;
  • speed (1 day) and cleanliness of installation;
  • strength (can withstand loads up to 100 liters per 1 sq. m.);
  • easy operation (allow wet cleaning);
  • durable;
  • fireproof, have properties to repel water and dirt, protect against leaks.

The only, until recently, lack of stretch ceilings was their high cost. Today it is quite affordable and more economical way of finishing than its competitors. If we add to this all the above advantages, then the answer to the question as to whether there are among the existing types of ceiling finishes a worthy alternative to stretch ceilings, in our view is obvious.
