Aluminum windows. Advantages and disadvantages of aluminum windows, how to properly care for aluminum windows

The modern market of window products offers customers a great variety of models with high quality and aesthetic characteristics, different manufacturing techniques and lifetime.

Why do customers prefer a profile of aluminum, because plastic and wooden models until recently arranged for everyone? Today we will tell you about what kinds of aluminum windows you can find on the market, what are their uniqueness and undeniable advantages.

Types of windows made of aluminum

An integral part of the house, apartment and any other room at all times were considered windows, and quality made and securely fixed, they fill the space with warmth, home comfort and amazing comfort.

Of all the variety of products a special place is occupied by aluminum structures, which, although they cost a little more, but also have their own unique, incomparable characteristics.

The most relevant are blind windows made of aluminum, sliding and constructions that imitate natural wood. At the same time, it should be noted that the cost of the latter is slightly higher than that of aluminum, and all thanks to the attractiveness that decorative finish gives. So, to design the most expensive and incredibly attractive windows are used expensive valuable tree species.

In the premises of residential and administrative type, for the convenience of airing and creating a healthy microclimate, it is customary to use sliding windows. Such designs provide excellent protection against street noise and adverse environmental effects. Again, pay attention to the price: too low cost - a sure sign of poor quality and fragility. Quality windows will last you at least 80 years.

By the type of aluminum window profiles, specialists distinguish warmand   coldprofile systems.

Warm profile. This name was obtained due to special thermal inserts, which in combination with a double-glazed window, provide a sufficient level of thermal insulation. Diene, ethylene, propylene, capron, nylon and other materials, safe for health and life of consumers, are used as a material for making thermal inserts. And thanks to the presence of 3-5 air chambers and seals, the window profile of aluminum is successfully installed in residential and office buildings.

Cold profile is the complete opposite of the previous analog. Such systems often glazed rooms of ancillary and industrial character, balconies and loggias. The window in this case is not equipped additionally with thermal inserts and seals, and its accessories are much easier.

Characteristics of windows made of aluminum. Advantages and disadvantages

Aluminum windows, being an excellent alternative to plastic constructions, has many advantages, among which:

  1. since aluminum is famous for its ecological compatibility and does not carry any danger and harm to human health, the windows of this material are absolutely harmless and safe, besides they are subject to recycling;
  2. excellent strength in conditions of low specific gravity of the profile system;
  3. lightness of construction, thanks to which the profile does not press against the walls;
  4. high resistance to negative impacts from the outside: aluminum windows are not afraid of corrosion, temperature changes, acid precipitation and UV rays;
  5. absolute fire safety;
  6. exceptional lightness and strength of the finished structure gives manufacturers a unique opportunity to design large-sized windows and stained-glass windows;
  7. easy care and maintenance;
  8. durability. The operating period of the aluminum profile reaches 60-80 years.
  9. are subject to repair;
  10. thanks to the possibility of manufacturing windows of various configurations and dimensions in accordance with the wishes of the customer, aluminum structures have unlimited possibilities in the field of design.

Looking at the whole complex of advantages, it may seem that aluminum window systems are absolutely perfect and completely devoid of any disadvantages. However, it is not. Specialists nevertheless single out a number of significant shortcomings, among which come to the fore:

  1. high level of thermal conductivity. Let's not forget that aluminum is a metal, therefore, preference is often given to warm profile systems. In addition, aluminum windows are much inferior in terms of thermal conductivity to wooden models and plastic structures;
  2. contacting with other metals, aluminum begins to break down;
  3. high cost, due to laborious and expensive manufacturing process.

Installation of aluminum windows

The technology of fastening aluminum systems is similar to installing a structure from other materials and involves dismantling the previous old window and performing work on the direct installation of a new model. In order to ensure safe transportation, the window enters the object in partially disassembled condition: frames equipped with fittings and separate double-glazed windows.

The profile is inserted into the window opening, the horizontal and vertical positions are adjusted with reliable fixation by wedges made of wood. Do not try to bend the profile!

Aligning the position of the frame, permanent anchorages on the dowel-nails are performed through the anchor plates. The width of the seam, according to GOSTs, should not exceed 15-55 mm, otherwise it is required to reduce the polystyrene foam. After fixing the frame to the dowels, you should begin to make the assembly seam using foam. The zapenivanie is made in 2 stages, the time interval is 2 hours. For qualitative processing of sutures, all temporary spacer wedges are extracted and all cavities are foamed. Mounting foam should be applied with a layer of up to 40 mm, taking into account the processing of vertical seams from the bottom up.

After the foam has completely solidified, the excess surplus is removed with a mounting knife, and a special water-permeable tape is glued on the outside of the window, which blocks the percolation of moisture onto the surface of the profile. It remains to install the ebb, fix the glass unit, the window sill, make the final adjustment of the accessories.

Care of windows from aluminum

To look after windows from aluminum, judging by numerous responses, it is improbably easy and simple. Aluminum, as we said earlier, is durable and immune to adverse effects from outside. To this we should add the moment that any dirt from the surface is easily cleaned with the help of special detergents.

And in the end, we note that any scratches and defects in the coating can be quickly removed using all kinds of mixtures and correctors.
