Laying a parquet board with your own hands
Before talking about installing a parquet board. It is worth saying that this is for the material. Parquet board is a material consisting of three layers of wood glued together. The material is durable and has a beautiful appearance.
Parquet board can be stacked on different covers:
- concrete screed;
- plywood;
- on a special substrate.
You can also lay the board and floating way. More details about each of the types of packing will be discussed later.
Preparation of flooring
This is the most basic stage of preparation. It must be treated carefully and seriously. In most houses the floors consist of their boards fixed to the transverse beams, therefore it is necessary to check the integrity of the entire structure and, if necessary, replace its parts.
The work to check the old floor and its repair are as follows:
- First of all, we evaluate the quality of beams. To do this, we dismantle part of the boards with a scrap or chisel.
- After that, the board must be sawed at a right angle in the place where it intersected with the beam. This is necessary to ensure that later laid boards have support.
- Now the transverse beams can be inspected for rotting or spoilage by insects. If such damage is detected, it is necessary to determine the depth of damage to the wood. To do this, the damaged area is pierced with an awl.
- If the beam in a deplorable state it must be replaced. Of course, you can cut the damaged part and replace it with a new piece, fixing it with bolts.
- After that, you can treat all the wooden parts with an antiseptic.
- Now you can lay the boards, replacing the old nails with screws, and their head must be heated in the wood.
- If there are slots in the cover, they can be filled with wooden slats, this will help to further strengthen the floor.
- After that, the surface can be leveled with a planer or a special machine. The floor should be even, strong and without squeaks.
- After that, we cover the old floor with protective compounds. They must be safe for human health.
When the preparatory stage is completed, you can proceed with the installation of the parquet board.
Technology of laying a parquet board
Installation of a floor covering from a parquet board is painstaking and labor-consuming.
It can be divided into the following laying techniques:
- On a concrete screed.
- On the substrate.
- On the plywood.
- Floating way.
Each of them will be discussed in more detail in the article.
laying of a parquet board on a screed
Floors can not be perfectly even. Somewhere there will be a difference in heights, and somewhere there are cracks and depressions. It is best to fill the screed with a self-leveling compound. After this, it is necessary to give time for its solidification, in a good way this period is 30 days. But the readiness of the concrete layer can be tested in a folk way.
For this we need:
- piece of plastic square shape;
- scotch;
- glass jar.
With the help of an adhesive tape, we attach a square of plastic to the floor, or we put the bottom up on the screed. Leave everything for 1 - 2 days, after which we remove the objects from the floor and carefully inspect them for condensation. If there is no condensation on the plastic or jar, then you can safely proceed with the laying of the coating. If moisture is present on the surface, you can wait a while or try to lower the humidity in the room. After the floor is finally ready to be laid, it must be cleaned of dust and dirt.
Installation is carried out in several stages:
- surface primer and allow to dry well;
- after that we select the adhesive composition and apply it to the surface;
- the glue is applied with a neat layer and the parquet board is mounted on it.
Everything must be done accurately and quickly enough. This editing technique is becoming very popular. The only drawback, if one or several boards deteriorate, it will be difficult to change them.
laying of parquet board on plywood
Installation of a parquet board on a plywood is labor-consuming enough process. Provided that the wooden beams of the old floor are suitable for further use, and if necessary replaced with a new material, you can start plywood flooring. To prepare the substrate for parquet, it is best to choose a moisture resistant plywood with a thickness of at least 10 mm. The fin of the material is cut into equal parts and laid on the floor in a runaway. In this case, between the sheets, it is necessary to leave the expansion joints from 3 to 6 mm, and near the wall their size can reach 10-15 cm. The plywood can be glued to the floor with water-dispersed or acrylic glue (both options are safe for human health). Or attach the dowel to the floor with nails, previously in the sheets making grooves for their hats. When the preparatory work is completed, it is possible to cover the finish coat.
The assembly process consists of the following steps:
- cleaning of plywood from dust and dirt, and carrying out degreasing;
- carefully study the instructions for the use of glue and note for yourself the time through which the composition applied to the plywood is ready for further work;
- after that we put the glue on the board and fix it to the floor, level with the walls and additionally fix with nails;
- the last board as a rule does not fit entirely, therefore measuring the required size produce a sawing of the material;
- the second row should be placed from the place of packing the fragment of the board in the opposite direction;
- the last row is laid taking into account the remaining length of the space, basically it is less than the length of the parquet board, so it is necessary to carefully measure and cut off any excess from the material.
Installation of a parquet board on a plywood is simple enough. The only difficulty can arise with pipes. But it is easily solved, it is necessary with the help of cardboard to make their layout and measure all the dimensions. After that, holes are made in the board with a jigsaw, taking into account the thermal gap. After the work is finished, you can fix the skirting board.
laying of a parquet board on a substrate
As an alternative to laying on concrete or plywood, you can mount the mounting on a substrate. Currently, there is a rich selection of this material. All species are diverse in composition and characteristics.
The most common are:
- Foamed polyethylene - is made of foam polyethylene and is resistant to infection with fungi and mold, is not afraid of moisture. Disadvantages are toxicity and short life (10 years) after which the substrate turns into dust.
- Foiled - this material will provide additional heat and noise insulation. Such a substrate is best used for laying material on a rigid base with good fixation.
- Cork - made from crushed and pressed bark cork. It is a natural material with excellent physical characteristics. It will perfectly insulate the floor and retain its qualities throughout the entire operation time.
- Bituminous - cork - is a kraft paper soaked in bitumen and covered with cork. This coating performs the role of waterproofing, and copes well with noise suppression.
All the substrates are good in their own way, and which one to give preference to is already a personal matter for everyone. The substrate is laid on the cleaned floor. And its sheets can be fastened together with a usual tape, so that the material does not move. Between the wall and the substrate there should be a gap of about 10 mm. The first board should be installed near the wall, using the gasket between them. Installation of a parquet board is simple enough, it is necessary to connect boards among themselves in the lock. Thus we move from one wall to the opposite and so row after row.
laying a parquet board in a floating way
Floating method of laying the cover is to install the boards among themselves, while fixing them to the floor is absent. Before you mount the board it must be placed in the room. Thus, the coating will get the humidity of the room. The coating is laid in the same way as in the previous cases. A great advantage of this method of installation is an easy replacement of the floor segment if necessary. Laying a parquet board, useful advice. As in any kind of finishing work, in the laying of flooring there are some subtleties.
Here are some of them:
- It is necessary to strictly observe the temperature regime and humidity (temperature above 18 degrees Celsius, humidity up to 60%).
- It is necessary to leave a gap between the coating and the walls of the room, due to the properties of the tree, to increase and decrease in volume depending on the temperature.
- To prolong the life of the floor from the floorboard can be varnished. It will prevent moisture from entering the seams between the boards and keep the attractive appearance of the floor.
These simple tips will help not only to lay the cover, but also to preserve its attractive appearance.
