We warm wooden windows with our own hands: strips of paper, special tape, adhesive tape and foam rubber, warmed with paraffin, sealant, heat-saving film. Warming of windows on Swedish technology.

The fact that at least 50% of the heat loss occurs through the windows during the cold season is known to everyone. Of course, we are not talking about modern double-glazed windows, which reduce heat loss to a minimum. The problem concerns wooden window constructions, while it is possible to insulate them themselves - quickly, simply and inexpensively.

How to insulate wooden windows

There are not many methods of thermal insulation of wooden window blocks, but very many. And here already everyone chooses at will and opportunities - someone uses ordinary newspapers, scotch tape, fabric stripes, and someone prefers modern expensive materials, and even a restoration that ensures the tightness of old window blocks for several years. Below we will look at the most popular ways of warming wooden windows, and start with the simplest and most accessible, so to speak, "grandfather" methods.

Newspapers and Strips of Paper

The method is known to be "run-in" by several generations. In Soviet times, with a total deficit, only the most common and available materials were used. However, this does not cancel their effectiveness. To insulate the window block wooden, used the most common newspaper, previously soaking them in water. Scrubbed newspaper slurry tightly clogged all the cracks. Some craftsmen rolled the newspapers into tight tubes, then doused them with water and pushed them into the cracks-such an analogue of the window putty. To enhance the effect from the top, the slots were pasted with paper strips-a special paper was used to insulate the windows in the form of a roll with a width of 7-8 centimeters.

As the glue used the most common household soap - it was bred in water, and put on paper, and then quickly glued the strip to the window. Although it was not necessary to plant soap, it was enough to wet the paper strip with a wet bar.

The method is, of course, quite effective and simple, but all this thermal insulation in the spring will have to be torn off. And then there are several problems - along with the paper, the paint will lag behind, moreover, in the winter newspapers and paper are densely adherent, and it is very difficult to tear them off completely - window frames will have to be laundered. For this reason, folk craftsmen came up with another way of warming.

Strips of fabric and cotton wool

This, so to speak, more "advanced" version, which began to apply a little later. The cheap technical cotton wool (sometimes old mattress padding was even used in the course) was densely packed into all the cracks, and stripes of fabric were pasted on top (old sheets, pillowcases, etc.) were pasted on the strips earlier. Vata is an excellent heat insulator, it is easy to remove from the cracks, and the fabric strips are peeled off the frame, leaving no traces.

Special tape for insulation of windows

Used today. The method is cheap and efficient. Slots are stuffed with the same cotton wool, but instead of the fabric strips they are sealed with tape. The material is a kind of regular paper tape, and leaves no traces on the surface of the frame.

Scotch and foam rubber

Foam is good to use when there are large cracks in the wooden windows. That is, the doors during the operation have dried up, deformed, and do not adhere to the frame. Wadding in this case will not work, therefore on the edge of the leaf the bands of foam rubber are fastened, thus achieving the tightness of the window. Today in stores you can buy self-adhesive stripes, before they were fastened with small "staple" nails.

Foam can quite work for a couple of years, after which it will have to be replaced. On top of the slots can be sealed with tape for insulation, in the spring the tape will have to be torn off, and foam can be left.

Warming with paraffin

Used if the windows have small slits. Take a paraffin candle, melt, draw paraffin into a syringe, and fill in the cracks.

However, in the case of a large size of cracks, they can poke a piece of cord or clothesline, then pour paraffin. Such insulation will work for several years.

Thermal insulation of wooden windows in Swedish technology

uteplenie-okon-po-shvedskoj-tehnologii

A widely spread and popular method today. To be precise, the Swedes have nothing to do with the invention of this technology. This name arose, thanks to the material used for insulation - EuroStrip, it was really developed by the Swedes.

The exact name of this method is "the technology of pane windows insulation". Its main feature is that "Swedish technology" is the repair and warming of old wooden windows in one bottle, in other words - partial reconstruction of them. After its holding, the windows can be opened freely in the cold season, as they are not glued, and do not worry about the insulation for at least 15 years. Window vestibules are sealed with a special sealant, which has a tubular profile. If you believe the manufacturers, then this sealant is resistant not only to temperature changes, but also to aggressive chemical substances, for example paints, and is completely not afraid of dirt. The structure and diameter of the seal can be different, you need to choose the material exactly the size of the slits. For this purpose, the tubular seal is marked with the following markings:

• "E" - for slots from 2 to 3.5 mm.
  • "P" - 3-5 mm.
  • "D" - 3-7 mm.
Measure the gap in the window porch very simply - with the help of a plasticine "sausage" wrapped in a piece of cellophane. As already noted above, "Swedish technology" is a partial restoration of the window, and it must be performed by specialists. And if the frames are in a deplorable state - have dried up, rotted, broken the geometry of the window, etc., then the work can do very, very expensive. Restoration is only for windows that are in good condition. If it is not so, then it will be cheaper to buy brand new double-glazed windows.

The order of work is as follows:

• Window shutters are removed from the hinges.

• Mark the future groove under the seal.

• A groove around the perimeter of the window frame is selected.

• In the finished groove with a special key roll up the tubular seal.

3

• The doors are hinged back onto the hinges.
  • If necessary, the hardware parts are replaced or the window geometry is aligned.

Warming of wooden windows with sealant

Cow-warm-wooden windows

To seal small crevices it is possible, using a sealant, a warm seam for windows, or silicone. Before applying the composition of the window, thoroughly wash and dry. Work with sealant and silicone is necessary only at a positive temperature of +5 to +40 degrees. For work you will need a special gun. Spout on the cylinder with the sealant is cut off, and then insert the balloon into the gun. Work with sealant is simple and convenient even in hard-to-reach places. If the composition accidentally fell on a frame or a window sill, it is cleaned with rags, moistened with a solvent or gasoline. From the glass, the sealant is easier to scrape off when it completely dries up - just gently pick it with the tip of the knife.

Warming with heat-saving film

Heat-saving films for windows have appeared on sale recently. Such a film easily passes light into the room, and keeps the heat in the room. Heat-saving film has two different types of coating: one conducts light and heat, the other - no.

In the process of gluing a heat-saving film onto a window glass, it is important not to confuse them - the side with a metallic luster should look at the street. Tap the film overlapping the window frames, fixing with adhesive tape. If everything is done neatly enough, the film will be almost invisible, if not to watch specially. Heat-saving film can also be used for thermal insulation of plastic windows, if necessary.

How to insulate window slopes

otkosui1

This is a very important point. Windows can be insulated according to all the rules, and the gap left by careless builders between the slope and the window frame will nullify all your efforts. The easiest way is to use the mounting foam in this case - effectively and quickly. After that, it will only be necessary to cut off excess foam, and the work is ready. Another option is to use a putty consisting of building gypsum and chalk in a 2: 1 ratio. The color of such putty is not striking, and will not stand out as much as the mounting foam.

Summarizing all of the above, we can conclude that the insulation of wooden windows with their own hands - the task is simple enough, to cope with which anyone can with minimal time and money.
