Kitchen lighting yourself

A pleasant and cozy atmosphere in the kitchen is a harmonious combination of the chosen stylistic direction, with tastefully selected and harmoniously arranged furniture and comfortable lighting. The correct arrangement of lighting devices in the kitchen will allow you to emphasize all the refinement and uniqueness of the interior, to successfully delineate the zones, giving the room a feeling of special warmth and soulfulness. To create such lighting, you will need some knowledge and skills, but nothing is impossible!

Designing kitchen lighting

Proper lighting of the kitchen space can not be created without a pre-designed project. To do this, you can use the services of professionals or perform independently, not forgetting that such a particular room involves combining the top and bottom lighting sources that will best zonate space.

Independently planning the lighting of the kitchen, experts recommend taking into account the features and requirements for the light design of such a room:

  • the upper and lower light sources should have the same intensity of the light flux and complement each other, creating a comfortable environment in the room;
  • if the project provides for the use of additional sources of lighting the walls, then the light flux emanating from them should be scattered and slightly muffled;
  • more intensive illumination of the working area is possible by installing luminaires built into the bottom of the kitchen cabinets;
  • for comfortable lighting of the working area it is better to use lamps that emit a soft, diffused light flux;
  • illumination of the working surface is created by installing on the walls of original lamps with articulated rotation;
  • if the working area is located in the central part of the kitchen space, then for its comfortable lighting use ceiling lights and lights built into the hood;
  • creating a project, the color solution of the kitchen and its stylistic direction becomes important;
  • when planning the placement of fixtures, it is necessary to take into account possible shading. Ideal is the option when the interior with the light turned on does not cast a shadow.

Kitchen lighting: basic options

To create comfortable and correct lighting, you can use one of three options, ideally suited for planning a standard kitchen.

First option, which involves combining two light sources located in the dining and working areas, is ideal for spacious kitchens with an area of more than 12 m 2. To create such complementary lighting, various lighting sources are used, mounted in a suspended or suspended ceiling structure, hanging cabinets or simply fixed on their surface, for example, LED tapes.

The second option light project in addition to two basic light sources, includes the installation of additional sources on the walls with a unique ability to control the intensity and angle of illumination. Soft, unobtrusive light emanating from such luminaires visually expands the space, which means that this option of lighting design is best suited for small kitchens.

Finally, the third option   is designed for small kitchens up to 6 m 2. In the interior of such a kitchen, every detail is important: the color and design solution of the wall surface, beautiful and ergonomic furniture, the number of light sources and their intensity. The traditional solution in this case are pastel shades and the use of one powerful light source for top lighting and more than two moving luminaires with diffused light for the best illumination of working surfaces.

Another version of the light project is successfully applied to modern kitchen-living rooms. For comfortable lighting, you can use any arsenal of trendy lighting devices, including the original LED lighting sources. Here, the primary task of designers is the delineation of recreation areas, canteen and working space through the brightness of the light flux. For example, in the living room on the walls and ceiling, lighting fixtures with a soft, muted outgoing light stream are attached, while in the kitchen a more intensive top lighting is applied in the composition with a dot illumination of the working area.

How to light the kitchen?

Chandeliers for the kitchen

When choosing a lamp in the kitchen is too great a temptation to hoist the first favorite lighting device on the ceiling. However, take your time, the choice of a suitable chandelier for the kitchen should be based on the following selection criteria:

  • shape and dimensions of the lamp;
  • texture of the plafond;
  • power and type of lamps;
  • placement of light sources.

To illuminate the modern kitchen, a combination of local light sources in the work area and the eating area is used. Therefore, you need to think over the place for the lamp above the dining table, a number of lighting sources above the kitchen set and do not forget to install a little above the work surface. This combination of light devices will not only create comfortable conditions in the kitchen, but also save on electricity.

Chandelier over the dining table

While engaged in choosing a chandelier, you do not hesitate to show your hidden design makings. After all, this lamp you will see at every meal.

The best option is a low-hanging chandelier. It is fixed on the ceiling in the center of the table. The height of the lighting device above the countertop is 80 cm.

  THE FORMchandeliers should repeat the configuration of the table:

  • if the table is round or square, then the chandelier selects traditional symmetrical options,
  • if the table is rectangular or oval, it is better to install several lamps, located along a line.

When choosing PLAFON TEXTURES, avoid lightproof material that creates a sharp, unpleasant for the perception of the contrast of light and shadow on the table top.

Lamps for the "dining" light source can be conventional or LED, which create the most comfortable lighting.

Lighting above the set

A perfect solution for creating comfortable lighting over a kitchen set is a series of halogen lamps installed on the ceiling. You can choose absolutely any method of arrangement, taking into account the indentation from the wall not less than 60 cm.

Lamps in this case will suit any - ordinary incandescent, economical halogen, LED and luminescent.

Work surface lighting

"Why illuminate this territory?" - you ask. If you select the right indentation from the wall, then this backlight is not needed. However, if the lamp is located behind the back of the cooking, the table top stays in the shade.

Additional illumination is necessary on those sites where you use a knife and electrical appliances, as well as a washing zone.

The illumination of the working area can be set on the working apron or on the surface of the hanging headset. Here, halogen and LED lamps can be used in a waterproof enclosure. Details on lighting the kitchen with LEDs can be learned from the video on youtube.
