We choose the interior glass door, useful advice. Glass Door Designs
It so happened that swinging structures are more common for people, at least for residents of the post-Soviet space. Swing doors may have minor differences in construction - for example, a glass swing door can be installed in a door frame, or mounted without it. The difference is also in the types of canopies used for installation.
folding glass doors interior with a box
In some cases, this is the most suitable option for a house or apartment, as the glass sheet fits snugly against the door frame, providing good sound insulation in the room. Such a door is no different from a conventional plastic or wooden interior door, except that its canvas is made of glass. However, the canopies, latches and door handles in the glass doors are different, below we will look at their features.
The glass leaf of the swing door can be just a piece of tempered glass, or it can be enclosed in a frame around the perimeter. Frames for the glass door leaf are made of different materials - plastic, wood, aluminum, etc. The glass canvas, enclosed in a frame of durable material, is safer and more reliable, since its edges are protected from accidental shocks.
a swinging glass door without a box
In most cases, without a doorframe, pendulum-type glass doors are installed - this door opens freely in both directions, the canvas itself becomes in place. This is a convenient design - there is no need to close the door, it does not clap, there is less risk of damaging the door leaf, etc.
Despite the above advantages, such a door closes loosely, since for its normal operation a gap between the door leaf and the doorway is necessary. Consequently, the sound and heat insulation of the room can not provide a swinging swing door.
A canopy for a pendulum door without a box consists of a fastener to the glass sheet and a metal pin that is inserted into the holes in the bottom and top of the doorway.
Glass doors of the pendulum type can be installed in rooms with intensive movement of people: cafes, restaurants, clinics, hospitals, etc. Glass pendulum doors have long proven their convenience and efficiency with a huge passenger flow at metro stations.
Which glass - matte, or transparent to give preference to, everyone decides for himself. If the doors are installed in a public type - cafes, restaurants, lobbies, most often transparent glass is used. For interior doors in the house, apartment or office is better suited door glass interior matte, or made of colored opaque glass. In the office, this is necessary to ensure a quiet working environment, and at home a person sometimes needs privacy, which is not facilitated by transparent doors.
A little tip: you can save a lot on matte or colored glass, buying a transparent cloth, and paste on its surface inexpensive decorative film, which is sold in stores of building materials.
sliding glass interior doors
Despite the fact that the sliding doors come in different designs, they are united by one obligatory general detail - the roller mechanism and guides, along which the door leaf moves.
The undoubted advantage of sliding doors is the saving of space, which is important for small apartments. In this case, the place that will be needed to open the swing door leaf can be used more rationally.
Sliding doors are attached to one side of the doorway, and can be opened left or right - as someone more comfortable. Sliding doors can be installed in any room. If the doorway is wide, it makes sense to install a sliding door with two doors sliding apart.
cassette sliding glass doors interior
The design consists of a cassette case in which the door leaf hides.
In fact, this is one of the types of sliding doors. The difference is that the door leaf is hidden in the wall when opened.
Advantages - convenience, safety in operation - the glass sheet hidden in a wall will not be damaged, which is especially convenient when moving furniture, moving the overall sanitary equipment or equipment.
The disadvantage of the cassette doors, perhaps, is only one - for the installation it will be necessary to partially or completely dismantle and rebuild the partition.
glass door coupe
A complete analogue of the "furniture" doors, which are installed on the cabinets of the compartment.
The principle of their work is extremely simple - the shutters go one after another, moving on rollers along the guides. The difference between the doors of the cabinets and the interior doors of the compartment is only in the thickness of the door leaf glass - a thicker sheet is used for the interior door.
The question arises: is it advisable to install the doors of the compartment in doorways of a width of 1.2 meters or less? In fact, the coupe doors are not installed in narrow apertures - it is much more expedient to use them as full-fledged interior partitions.
To do this, remove the partition between the rooms, and install instead of it a compartment door with several doors, thus obtaining several advantages: firstly, a beautiful glass "partition", secondly - the possibility of increasing the space by simply removing the doors, in the third - Enter the room in any convenient place, removing one of the door leaves.
Some recommendations for installing glass doors
• The principles of installing glass and wooden doors are similar in many ways, but there are a number of significant differences. First you need to determine exactly the type and model of the glass door, as this determines the way it is mounted.
• The glass sheet has a lot of weight, so it's better to install it with an assistant.
• It is not possible to fit the prepared glass door at home to the desired size, trim or saw. It is recommended to make glass doors under the order, and the gauger should be called only after the doorway is completely ready.
• Cloth for doors made of tempered or triplex glass - these types of glass are very strong, but still can be damaged if carelessly handled. During the installation of the glass door, you must observe the utmost care, and, once again, work together with the assistant.
• When installing glass doors, not only wooden but also metal boxes are very popular - they look very organically with a matte and transparent glass cloth.
Features of fittings for glass doors. Manufacturers
To begin with, all hinges, pens, fasteners, latches, brackets, rollers, guides for glass doors are an order of magnitude more expensive than for wooden or plastic ones. The reason is simple: glass is an expensive and fragile material, therefore all accessories must be of high quality.
With small dimensions, the fasteners must be able to withstand heavy weight with a significant margin. So, in the presence of quality parts from a good manufacturer, you can install a glass cloth weighing over 100 kg. and a width of more than half a meter.
Of course, apart from reliability, all the details of the hardware should look beautiful and harmonize with the glass canvas. Particularly well proved in this respect are parts made of aluminum and stainless alloys. Sometimes bronze and brass, anodized alloys are used for the production of accessories.
Some of the most famous manufacturers of accessories for glass doors: Dorma, Geze, TM "Wss", Casma, Meroni, Hdl - offer sets of high quality parts for glass doors of different types. When choosing accessories for a glass door, do not stop at the products of one manufacturer - you can combine the details of different brands, completing, thus, the door to your liking.
It should be noted that the requirements for fittings, regardless of the type of glass door, are the same: strength and quality. This applies to the details of both swinging and sliding doors: rollers, guide profiles, awnings and hinges should only be from a trusted manufacturer, durable and durable.
Installation of glass doors, step by step instructions
Consider the installation of a swing-type glass door - as the simplest option.
The first is the preparation of the doorway. It should have more than the size of the door frame by about 1 - 1.5 cm.
If you are installing the door for the first time, lay out all the elements on the floor: a glass sheet, all the door frame parts, threshold, etc.
You have to imagine that the door structure is completely assembled and ready. Of course, you can do without it, but if you follow it, you will be able to imagine what will be a fully assembled design. This will make it possible to avoid frequent mistakes.
Further it is necessary to mark the cross-bars of the door frame in such a way that the finished parts correspond to the dimensions of the adjacent sides of the door leaf.
When mounting the glass door, it is necessary to observe the clearance between the door frame and the web, which should be 3 mm. (this is an additional 6 mm for the crossbeams and pillars of the box). To make it easier to maintain the gap, you can put pieces of cardboard or plastic of the appropriate thickness in the groove between the box and the sheet. Marking the bottom of the door frame, you need to take into account the size of the threshold (if it is provided).
After that, we collect the entire construction of the box. It is recommended to start working from the top. Focusing on the layout, the upper crossbar and side parts are cut at an angle of 90 or 45 degrees, depending on the design of the box. Used tools: manual circular, hacksaw. For beginners it is recommended to use a chair - a tool for cutting parts at the right angle.
The upper crossbar and adjacent side racks are fixed with each other by means of a clamp, drill through holes with a diameter of about 2.5 mm, then fix the elements of the box with self-tapping screws and remove the clamps.
The threshold is cut at the width of the box at a right angle, placed between the side posts and fixed with screws.
A ready box for the glass door is installed in the doorway, and fastened with dowels to the walls. The fixing step is not less than 40 cm. In the process of fastening, it is necessary to use the building level to check the box for verticality. To maximally secure the box in the aperture, wooden wedges are driven into the gaps between the beams of the walls - 3-4 pieces on the sides, 2 pieces on top.
The gap between the wall and the box is blown with a mounting foam. An important point: when frozen, the foam will increase greatly in volume, and with a high degree of probability deforms the wooden box.
One or two millimeters will be enough to prevent the glass sheet from entering the grooves. To prevent this, one or more wooden struts are placed in the center of the box. Do this before you use the foam.
Cool down the foam to dry, and at this time you can install on the glass door handles, lock and hinges. If the sheet is completely glass, with the installation of accessories, problems should not arise, since all the necessary holes are made in the factory.
The final stage of the work is the installation of platbands, they are glued to liquid nails, nailed with small "staple" studs, or they insert a stud in the groove - the installation of a glass interior door of the swing type can be considered finished.
