Wooden bird feeders are the most durable and durable feeders. They are completely safe from the environmental side and absolutely safe for birds. In addition, birds usually eat from a wooden feeder, because it reminds them of their natural habitat. And, despite the fact that making a wooden bird feeder with your own hands is somewhat more difficult than, for example, a feeder from a box or bottle, but, nevertheless, it's worth it.
There are some rules for the production of feeders for birds with their own hands. First of all, the feeder must necessarily have a roof. This is a very important point - after all, without the roof, the whole essence of using this device will be lost - the food intended for the feeding of feathered friends will completely become useless from the impact of unfavorable weather conditions on it. So, the roof. In a wooden feeder it is also made of wood or plywood. The roof at the feeder is best done not by the horizontal, but by the letter "L", that is, by the angle, so that neither snow nor rainwater is trapped on it.
The hole for the feeder must be made in sufficient size for the bird to be able to fly there as well as fly out. And the edges of the hole should not be sharp or uneven, so as not to injure the bird.
It is best not to "invent a bicycle", but to make a classic wooden bird feeder with your own hands in the form of a small house - four walls, a roof, a "door". For its production, boards approx. 20 cm wide and plywood sheets (waterproof) with a thickness of approximately 16 mm, as well as a hammer and nails, are suitable. You can also, as they say, combine business with pleasure, and, making a bird feeder, find the use of a plastic bottle for recycling. It is best to use plastic bottles of large volume (at least liter) to make bird feeders, because birds need space to use their wings - they need to fly freely into the feeder and fly in the same way without hindrance. And you do not want to do a good deed for only small birds? The big ones also want to eat! So let's take care of them, too.
So, take a large plastic bottle and cut out two holes in front of each other - one will serve as an entrance to the bird house, and the other - the way out of it. Or you can make only one large opening on the side, cutting out part of the bottle and removing it. The edges are pasted with scotch tape or insulating tape (so that the birds are not wounded about them). From above, to attract the attention of birds to the trough, the bottle can be colored. Entrust it to the child, you'll see - he will be very happy!
Now we need to figure out how to hang this structure. To do this, we remove the cork from the bottle and make two holes in it with the help of a red-hot awl, into which we pass a string and fix it from below with knots. For the formed loop we hang our nice bird feeder on a tree branch or on a bush.
