Plinth flooring, what to choose

Each construction work always requires its logical completion. After laying the floor covering, the finished and stylish appearance is attached to the plinth. It is the baseboard that is an element that combines practicality and stylish look. What kind of outdoor skirting choose?

What are the floor skirting

The installation and installation of plinths with their own hands is a simple procedure for finishing works. Skirting floor is structurally a figured bar that masks the gap between the floor covering and the wall. Depending on the material, the skirting board is characterized by its performance and quality. The most common are the elements of the plinth:

• wooden

• plastic

• laminated

• based on MDF

• Flexible.

Criteria for choosing a floor skirting board

Strict criteria for choosing a plinth does not exist. If you choose, you must rely on your own ideas and taste, as well as material means. The only recommendation and the main criterion for choosing a floor skirting is the appearance and material of manufacture. When choosing a skirting board for a floor covering, it is necessary to remember that the color of the fringing can play a good role in the design. Therefore, if the floor covering and plinth of the same color and tone, the room will look visually more spacious. Effectively and stylishly it looks like a room in which the fringing of the floor contrasts with the elements of the decoration. This can be cornice curbs or beams, as well as the color of furniture and its height above the floor. The height of the baseboard floor can vary from 6 to 20 cm. For a room with high ceilings, the skirting board is selected with a height of more than 5 cm. Taking into account the proportions of the room and the height of the ceilings, you can achieve a stylish and original design of the room. The shape of the plinth depends on the material of manufacture.

The type of plinth is recommended to choose depending on the type of coating. In rooms where the coating has a pronounced wood pattern, preference is given to a classic wooden skirting board. Traditional "wooden" recipe offers in this case a plinth made of solid wood or a keyway. However, a wooden skirting board should not be installed in rooms with significant humidity or with the expected daily wet cleaning.

For such premises more practical plinths of plastic are used. What is attractive for a plastic skirting board for finishing works yourself? The main positive qualities that allowed the plastic element to outrun all its competitors are:

• light weight and convenient mounting size

• the ability to hide small defects in walls or floors

• Variety of assortment of colors

• ease of handling, installation and maintenance

• resistance to a variety of environments, fire resistance

• harmless to people living.

As a rule, the support planes of the plinth are made of plastic, they have a rubber edging, which allows you to flexibly hide defects and shortcomings.

When choosing a plastic element as a finish for rooms or rooms with a coating of laminate, linoleum or tiles, a universal plinth made of rigid or foamed PVC is considered to be in demand. The low density of the material - 0,8 g / cm3 allows to install the assembly accurately and quickly.

Installation of a universal plastic skirting with the use of a dowel-nail is made in accordance with the proposed video.

Calculation and layout of placement of the floor plinth

In order to make the installation skirting, you need to measure the perimeter of the room or room. Then we sum the length of all the walls, subtracting the width of the doors and windows from the resulting sum. When calculating, it is necessary to take into account all available projections, represented as columns, bay windows and existing communication or technological arrangements. The marking of the walls for the installation of the skirting must be started from the corner, which is adjacent to the longest wall. At the end of the plinth (which will serve as the beginning of the installation) is put on the corner. Then the skirting board is laid along the wall taking into account the exact entry of the corner into the corner of the room. This is the start of the marking for drilling the mounting holes. The distance between adjacent holes is 40 cm. Thus, mark the entire perimeter of the room for fasteners. Drilling holes for fixing the skirting board is made by a perforator, installed flat on the floor covering.

Accessories for floor skirting

To install a skirting floor, you must take care of the fittings to the profile. Fittings for floor skirting are considered to be couplings, corners and plugs.

The couplings are installed in the joints of the profile sections. Angles are internal and external. The plugs cover the ends of the skirting profile directly. There are stubs of two types, which "along the course" of the action are left and right. The fittings are calculated with the total calculation of the length of the perimeter of the plinth and is selected in the profile's tone.

Installation and installation of plinth with cable channel

Installation and installation skirting can be made as follows:

• with the help of glue "liquid nails"

• using special fasteners

• using self-tapping screws

The most accessible option for mounting skirting is the installation with glue. You just take the glue "liquid nails" and gently put on the inside of the plinth. If the floor skirting is more complex design, then it is more convenient to make the installation using special fasteners and self-tapping screws. Fastening with self-tapping screws is reliable and does not require preparation of the base. It is enough to drill holes in the profile of the floor plinth with a diameter of up to 3 mm and make a cone-shaped depression for masking the fastening screws. By marking at a distance of 40 cm in the holes insert dowels, tighten the screws and plinth securely in place.

A floor plinth with a cable channel is considered to be the most compact and convenient design. How in this case it is necessary to make installation? The optimum condition before installation is pre-laying the cable in the channel groove. The cable is laid slightly below the screws in a gentle mode, eliminating the damage to the cable by an awl or self-tapping screw. Screws are carefully twisted to 0.2 cm, the cable is laid, self-tapping screws are turned back. The cable is located in this case over the mounting.

Detailed installation of the skirting board with the cable channel by your own hands is offered for you in the video.
