The modern construction market offers a multitude of multifunctional and high-tech finishing materials that have new capabilities in the design of any interior and solve several tasks simultaneously. High performance and environmental safety, the ability to create unique interior items and ease of installation determine the incomparable success of gypsum board in the repair and construction sector. Despite the apparent difficulty of installing drywall on the wall, any performer can still perform it on their own, with a little effort and patience.

Drywall in the interior design
Gypsum cardboard is a unique finishing material that allows you to quickly carry out a complex of finishing works of any complexity, organize additional sound and heat insulation, create original partitions and designs of various configurations for interior decoration.
Working with gypsum plasterboard, of course, presupposes the presence of professionalism and skill of the performer, certain skills and experience of carrying out such work, but with accuracy of the process technology, you can independently install it on the wall surface and build simple and simple gypsum board structures.
Installation of drywall on the walls with their own hands
It should be noted that specialists distinguish two methods of mounting drywall: frameless (installation of gypsum board on glue) and using a pre-supported metal profile.
The second way, having a lot of advantages, allows to achieve:
- ideal alignment of wall surfaces with all kinds of differences;
- high speed of execution of operations in the absence of dirty and dusty work;
- safe concealed fastening of various engineering systems in the free space between the wall surface and the frame;
- perfect, perfectly smooth appearance of the walls and an excellent basis for further finishing - wallpapering, painting or tiling.
In this case, it is worth remembering the existing shortcomings of drywall. Among them, the reduction of the useful area of the premises and the low maintainability come to the fore.
Installation of drywall on the walls: the preparatory stage
The preliminary stage requires the performer to carry out a number of works on the preparation of the necessary materials, components and tools, to provide access to the working surface and its preparation.
For the process of wall plastering with gypsum plasterboard you will need:
- metallic profile;
- fasteners (self-tapping screws and dowels, crossings, connectors);
- sheets of gypsum board of the right size and in the right amount with the specified technical and operational characteristics (standard, fire or water resistant);
- professional tool: hammer, puncher, metal scissors or knife, screwdriver.
We make the layout of the room
Alignment of the surfaces of walls with gypsum boards is preceded by work on the marking of the GKL mounting sections. These works are performed with the utmost care and responsibility, since the subsequent fixing of the drywall and its consumption depend on this.
To do this, step back from the main wall for a small gap to lay the communications and insulation and drill the screws in the corners of the walls. Secure the plumb bows and install the retreaders on the touching areas with the floor. Pulling the cord between the screws on the ceiling and the cord between the floor screws, mark the baselines indicating the mounting areas of the bearing profile. After the end of the marking, the cords and screws must be dismantled and moved to the fixation of the supporting frame.
To achieve maximum efficiency when performing marking, be sure to use a plumb line or a building level. Then perform vertical marking on the surface of the walls - it will indicate the places of attachment of the racks.
Mounting of frame for plasterboard
To fix the bearing profile to the previously prepared marking lines by means of a perforator in the floor and ceiling surfaces, make holes in steps of 0.4-0.6 meters and install dowels in them. Using screws, secure the profiles securely.
Similarly, fix the guide profile to the wall surface. As a result of the process, all the profile guides will form a single plane.
On the basis of vertical marking on wall panels, fix with dowels mounting hangers, the task of which is to hold the rack profile and create additional rigidity.
Proceed to install the rack-mount profile to the frame. You will have to bring in the cavity of the lower and upper profiles and fix on the joints on the screws at the same time and to the profiles, and to direct suspensions. Formed ears bend inside the frame.
You can significantly increase the rigidity of the structure by setting the transverse profiles by fixing them to the vertical elements.
Installation of drywall on walls
Before leveling the walls with gypsum board, you should decide the feasibility and necessity of warming and soundproofing the room. As insulating materials, you can use an insulating glass, glass wool, foam, cork, which must be laid in the hollow space of the supporting frame. Do not forget to also lay the necessary engineering communications.
For fixing gypsum cardboard to the supporting frame use self-tapping screws for metal. Observe the installation step of 30-40 cm.
A qualitative and reliable fixing of plasterboard is possible with strict observance of such rules as:
- the panel should be staggered;
- screws are screwed into the gypsum plasterboard strictly at an angle of 90 °, while the heads must be drowned by 1 mm;
- gypsum board is securely fixed both on the perimeter and in the central part, excluding the slightest possibility of free sagging of the material. In this case, the ends of the panels should be fixed to the base of the profile;
- fixing the sheet on the screws, you should observe the minimum allowable spacing from the ends of the material for finishing: for a cutting joint - 15 mm, factory joint - 10 mm;
- for cutting gypsum board use a mounting knife.
After covering the wall surfaces with gypsum board, you can safely proceed to finishing works - oshpaklevaniyu, coloring or pasting wallpaper.
