The idea of creating the first cartridge for the mixer by the American company Ideal Standard was to the liking of sanitary equipment manufacturers and consumers. Less than half a century, as invented products in the form of a single-lever mixer cartridge settled in kitchens and bathrooms. But the ideal standard cartridge got a rapid development and was adapted to replace any mixer. To easily and quickly make your own replacement, we recommend that you study the device and the capabilities of the cartridge.

The device and the principle of the cartridge
A kitchen faucet is considered to be a permanent sanitary appliance, equipped with a crane with bunks or a replaceable cartridge. A common locking element of the single-lever (flange) mixer, regulated by GOST 25809-96, is a cartridge.
Operation of the cartridge provides a lever that can rotate when the position of the valve is changed.
Replaceable cartridges for the mixer, the types of which are different in execution, are divided into collapsible hull and non-ball bearing models.
The principle of operation of the ball and disk elements is the same, the difference in the device of the device for the flow of water.
Any cartridge for the mixer consists of a housing with a cover, locking plates, a working rod and gaskets.
Naturally, a good cartridge for the mixer is correctly selected for the main parameters, install or make a replacement according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
The impurity composition of the water, the pressure in the water main and the limited service life (150-200 thousand cycles) affect the operation of the mixer cartridge.
What malfunctions of the mixer cartridge are
Malfunctions of the mixing cartridge are:
- the absence of manual adjustment of water at any position of the valve lever
- incomplete regulation of water supply and tight lever travel
- deterioration of the surface of the plates in the form of scratches and formation of a deposit
- a rod pin is broken or thread broken.
In case of any malfunction, the mixer cartridge is leaking, so for the following operations it is necessary to remove the element and inspect it.
As a result of the inspection, they conclude: "Repair or change the mixer cartridge in the same dimensions."
We will not hide, learn the replacement of the standard WEBERT, RUBINETA, Oras, Vidima, HYDROPLAST or Esko mixer cartridges with flexible piping available to everyone.
Self-replacing the cartridge

Recall that the basis for selecting a replacement cartridge in a single-lever mixer is the parameters:
- valve material (plate)
- diameter and frame sizes
- length of working rod.
Thus, the standard size of the standard cartridge diameter (Ø 35-40 mm) and the configuration of the seat in the seat of the mixer will ensure correct installation when replacing the element.
Useful tips for choosing a cartridge and changing it are shown here.
It is known that the increased interest of the consumer to mixers with a cartridge is based on the real possibility of selecting existing similar models. However, interest and attention to the cartridge is lost in the case of mounting a mixer with a rigid cabling.
The European quality of Iddis, Fiore Rubinetterie or Sedal cartridges with a diameter of 40-45 mm, height with a leg of 60-65 mm and a cartridge height without a stem up to 50 mm of high performance and resistance to temperature changes and unstable pressure in the water main will provide a headache for the owners of GROHE mixers.
Why? The answer is simple: it is difficult to find a replacement right away.
how to replace the cartridge in a mixer with a rigid cabling
For hard-wiring, the question of how to remove the cartridge in the GROHE mixer is complicated, because to replace the element, you need to disassemble the mixer.
The algorithm for replacing a cartridge or rubber gaskets on a rigid connector is similar to the replacement of a traditional element of a flask mixer:
Replacing the cartridge
- Remove the decorative plug from the hole under the handle
- We unscrew with a hexagonal wrench 3 mm fixing screw handle
- Unscrew the lock nut with a 32 mm socket wrench
- We take out the cartridge together with the sleeve
- We make a complete replacement of the element by installing the cartridge into the mixer seat.
Replacement of gaskets
- Disconnect the collets from the water supply system
- With a little effort we squeeze out a ceramic stand with tubes
- From the ceramic stand we remove the tubes
- We replace the deformed or worn rubber gaskets (rings).
- We assemble the mixer with replaced elements in the reverse order.
Self-replacement of the GROHE cartridge cartridge of rigid connectors is shown in the video.
