Types and purpose of drywall

Gypsum cardboard is called a sheet material for finishing, which in its composition contains one layer of a mineral base, i.e. gypsum, and a number of layers of paper located on both sides. Paper layers perform two functions:

  1. paper on the front surface relatively protects against abrasion;
  2. this layer holds back the internal stress of the gypsum that occurs during work with the material, or when the operation of the finished surfaces occurs.

Several types of drywall are known. The usual is denoted by the abbreviation GKL. It is used for finishing partitions, walls, and ceilings, but it is important that the work is carried out in a dry heated room. VGKL stands for "moisture resistant gypsum board". It includes in its structure water repellent impregnation, which also protects against the appearance of the fungus, and the core includes additives that reduce the absorption of moisture. It is used for rooms with high humidity: kitchens, bathrooms, garages. GKLO - fireproof gypsum board. This property is due to the presence on the inside of sheets of mineral fibers and special fire-resistant additives. GKLO finds application where increased fire safety is placed on the premises.

The standard parameters of drywall sheets are as follows: length is 2.5 and 3 m, width is 1.2 m, thickness is 6 mm, 9 mm, 12.5 mm. The most compact size is 1200 * 600 * 12.5 mm, they are convenient to use, but they are more expensive. The minimum thickness of the wall skin is 12.5 mm. The same thickness of GKL is used for ceilings, this information is supplied by the manufacturers. 6 and 9 millimeter thicknesses are needed for radius surfaces.

When choosing drywall, be careful. The sheet must be whole, without broken corners and torn paper. The place of their storage is a covered warehouse where the sheets are in a horizontal position. When purchasing accessories, check the rigidity of the products and the thickness of the metal.

There are the most popular profiles for drywall, this UD and CD.CD profile does not crumple when squeezed by hand, and the UD should not be brittle. The reliability of the construction depends on the thickness of the metal.

The high-quality zinc-plating of the profile has a uniform gloss without any stains. CD and UD profiles are usually in lengths of 3 and 4 meters, but if you need other sizes, you can make a preliminary order for the plant for the production of drywall, there you will make the right.
