When carrying out construction work, rigorous requirements are imposed on the quality of the reinforcement. The existing stereotype that the steel armature is the most durable, as if an anchor bolt crashed into the subconscious. Therefore, the appearance of plastic reinforcement was met with apprehension. "With bayonets" no one took new material, but has not yet acquired it for general use. To understand the advantages of plastic fittings, you need to gain experience with it.

What is a plastic armature?
Modern achievements in the chemistry of polymers and materials science have shown to the interested masters a plastic reinforcement (fibre-reinforced plastic rebar), otherwise known as composite reinforcement.
Plastic reinforcement is a glass fiber reinforced plastic with improved performance properties. Externally, the plastic armature is a non-metallic rod, consisting of basaltic, aramid and glass fibers, which were impregnated with thermoplastic to impart a stable state.
Depending on the characteristics of the fibers, the reinforcement is distinguished:
• Staple-plastic (APS) fiber diameter of 13-16 microns
• basalt plastic (ABP) with a fiber diameter of 10-16 microns
• carbon fiber (AUP), fiber diameter up to 20 microns.
The finished product is a rod reinforcement of diam. from 4 to 20 mm. light yellow or saturated gray.
For the best adhesion to concrete, the surface of a fiberglass reinforcement is indicated by the rebreatment with special ribs of a spiral configuration or has a characteristic coating. This ensures reliable fixation in the installed structures.
The process of production of plastic fittings and the technology of its manufacture are labor-intensive and are associated with technically sound parameters: selection of the temperature conditions of the spinneret, speed of broaching on special equipment, impregnation quality and its kinetics.
Technical characteristics of plastic fittings
In order to compare the technical characteristics of plastic fittings and steel reinforcement, let us turn to the table.
Tabular data allow us to conclude that the plastic armature is a stainless material with increased acid resistance. The tensile strength coefficient exceeds the similar characteristics of steel reinforcement by 3 times. The elastic properties of plastic reinforcement also exceed the inelastic properties of the metal.
At the same time, the plastic fittings do not conduct heat, are magneto inert and radiolucent. Under the influence of low temperatures or electromagnetic radiation does not lose its strength characteristics. And if you add that the fiberglass reinforcement is lighter than the metal one several times, then the question of choice: "Metal or plastic fittings?" Will and should be decided in favor of plastic reinforcement.
Where is used plastic fittings
The extensive field of activity of plastic fittings confirms the areas of its application:
• industrial-civil and road construction
• for concrete structures made of light and heavy concrete (slabs and monolithic foundations)
• to create flexible connections between multi-layer walls of structures, including a carrier layer or a facing layer
• for shore protection and water disposal
• for the construction of roads and fences
• for reinforcement of lighting support towers and insulating traverse
• for the formation of seismic girders of existing and newly erected structures
• when creating elements of the infrastructure of chemical and oil industries.
Due to their unique qualities, mobility in the first place, plastic reinforcement for the foundation must be spatially securely fixed. Loads and structural characteristics must provide the minimum permissible distances to the working surface.
When do reinforcement work
Reinforcement of concrete structures using plastic fittings is performed after the formwork is installed. The quality of the reinforcement installation should provide the estimated durability and rigidity of the structure.
The reinforcement is installed in place in the form of individual rods, from which the carcass is then tied. Therefore, when creating a protective reinforcing layer, use a plastic retainer for the reinforcement.
Fixings for fixing reinforcement
Plastic fixators, depending on the purpose, can have a certain shape and configuration. There are fixators of several types:
• horizontal
• Vertical.
Lockers of horizontal type are designed for concrete slabs and floors. Install such locks solely on a solid base. Horizontal fixators have a characteristic configuration: "herringbone", "triangle", "stool". Horizontal fixators are able to provide a protective layer in height from 25 to 50 mm.
Vertical fixers are used for vertical planes, mostly wall surfaces. Have a configuration in the form of an asterisk. Vertical clamps provide a thickness of the protective layer from 15 to 45 cm.
For formwork, fixers are used for the thickness of the monolithic layer. The configuration of such locks is "cork" and "cone". For ease of installation, the fasteners are manufactured together with a PVC tube and are designed for process openings.
It is possible to use fixers of this type when laying communication channels.
The fasteners of plastic fittings are simple to carry out by their own hands. How fastening is shown in this video.
Prospects for the use of plastic fittings
Of course, the merits of plastic fittings can be found from the reviews. Plastic fittings, reviews of which show practical savings, are based on its cost. At the same time, the costs of acquiring, transporting and subsequently installing the valves are minimal.
You can deliver plastic fittings to the construction site in the trunk of your own car. The armature is transported in a twisted state in convenient and light bays. For example, plastic fittings, the price per meter of which consists of the cost of fiberglass and resin, is cheaper than the cost of metal fittings. Therefore, the price indicator allows to draw a conclusion about the perspective of the use of plastic fittings.
